OBDF 301: Mold Positive Prep for CAM

 

The photo above is my foam positive. I kept in mind of not adding overlapping areas or undercuts as the CNC machine would not be able to do so. draft angle analysis really helped me make sure I did not accidently add things to the model the machine was not able to do. I did not have to make any changes to the model as I had this in mind from the beginning. I would like to see if it is possible to change pieces mid cut to get a smaller detail or make another CAM file to do so.

  I chose to do a one-piece mold making a bowl. I used draft angle analysis to check the draft and the release and made sure it would be able to pop out. The middle of the bowl has a tiny spike which may be too small for the drill piece but I want to see how it turns out.

Surface Design Study

 Here I applied the surface design I previously created onto 3d object. I found out that if you hold shift control you can choose what surfaces you can highlight on a 3d object and it made my surface design look more successful on the cube. I decided on using the cube as one of my objects as it shows a flaw in my design as it was not made in mind of it working as a pattern across faces of a object but rather one singular surface.

My Castle

  This is my take on the house from the Wona arc form One Piece. I decided to recreate this as One Piece was something I watched during the summer. The voxel approach I took was to make it slightly more difficult with all the curves and bends just using boxes. By using a voxel approach it was quite easy to create a scale and frame for the base and add onto it. When it can to adding detail to it and adding to the frame voxels limited me to certain shapes and could not let me achieve the exact look of the idea. Trying to add flow to a box using more boxes is quite difficult and it did not work in my piece. I found from doing this assignment that I would use voxel as a starting frame for a 3d model to create a frame and scale the model but when it comes to creating the model I would rather use the proper tools to create the shapes needed.                                     ...
